Desert Aire's TotalAire™ and VeritcalAire™ units address the first five major bullets listed in the ad above including:
DOAS units deliver dry, 100% outdoor air
Units eliminate conditions for damaging mold
Energy efficient systems save money
Accurate temperature control
Water-source heat pump available
TotalAireTM
TotalAireTMdehumidifiers
are deisgned specifically for 100% outdoor air. They are are capable
of handling high moisture loads due to a specially designed evaporator
coil. They are also configured for the easy addition of other
components needed for a complete HVAC solution. Here are some quick facts about TotalAireTM.
Controls temperature within ±2.0°F
Includes enthalpy wheel option for energy efficiency in all modes-dehumidification, heating and cooling
Evaporative coils have raised lance fins, rifled tubes to maximize moisture removal with significant MRE's
Reduces mold and mildew problems by eliminating their primary food source, moisture
Single point power connection for all units

VerticalAireTM
VerticalAireTMdehumidifiers are based off the TotalAireTM
product line. They are designed to address all critical IAQ and 100%
outdoor air applications while delivering accurate leaving air
temperatures. VerticalAireTM
units provide an IAQ solution for applications with limited space for
HVAC equipment. Here are some quick facts about VerticalAireTM.
Controls temperature within ±2.0°F
Indoor system
Reduces mold and mildew problems by eliminating their primary food source, moisture
Small footprint to fit tight mechanical rooms
4- to 15-ton units fit through 36" door

Case History
North
Carolina Central University used Desert Aire units to dehumidify a
dormitory that was literally unlivable due to mold. To find out how
NCCU combatted their mold problem, read their story below orclick here to download a PDF of this article.
Profile
Project: North Carolina Central University
Application: Dormitory Dehumidification
Desert Aire Units: Four (4) TotalAire™ 46-Ton Systems
Customer's Battle
It’s the beginning of the 2003-2004 school year at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, NC
and the college has come alive with activity. Returning students are eager to get back to class. New students
are excited to start their college life on campus.
However, shortly after starting the new school year, students and administrative staff noticed mold and mildew
developing throughout two dormitories. The problem even became public and was reported in some local
newspapers. Without hesitation, the college moved the students out of the dorms and into area hotels to avoid
any health risks.
NCCU couldn’t afford exposing students to the mold. On the other hand, it didn’t want to close its dorms either.
In need of a solution, the college called upon Herb Stanford, an engineer from Stanford-White Engineering. He
soon assessed that moisture was a contributing factor to the mold and mildew. Having worked with Desert
Aire on previous dehumidification projects, Herb called his Desert Aire rep in the area.
Desert Aire Strategy
The rep saw right away that this was a classic IAQ problem; the customer needed to get the dewpoint down as
low as possible. There was no alternative. The job called for TotalAire™, which is exactly what was sized up
for both buildings. Each dorm was fitted with two TotalAire™ 46-ton units with remote condensers.
After some routine troubleshooting and fine-tuning of the controls on the systems, the units were up and
running by the end of the first semester. By February of the second semester, the mold and mildew problems
had been mitigated allowing the evacuated students to return.
Mission Accomplished - Debriefing
The key to the success at NCCU’s dorms was that the TotalAire™ units dramatically reduced the moisture
load. The customer was absolutely impressed with TotalAire™’s ability to supply air at 48°F dewpoint and that
they were able to solve an emergency design problem with an emergency purchase.
